September 30th

Tori called me frantically Friday afternoon. Her teacher does a friday afternoon activity. The parents sign up. And apparently I'd signed up for this one. Since I had not said anything she just new that I had nothing to do for it. I told her it would be fine and that I would be there.

I brought a bunch of embroidery thread and tought the kids how to make friendship bracelets. It was a hit for all the girls and even the boys.
Jason came with me and surprisingly he only tried to escape the room once.

Dressing up for school

Duncan has had a couple of fun days at school. He has had to dress up for his grade. He really does like his teacher, and has enjoyed school this year.

They did a Mock Immigration experience. Duncan was a very poor man from Russia. He came to America with $34.00 in his pocket. This was the outfit that he wore to school.
This fabulous costume was made by my Mother back in the 80's sometime. Duncan was a lord and had to dress the part. I think this is my favorite thing I've ever seen him in!!! =)
The had a renaissance feast. Duncan had to bring the onions.

Class Pictures!! LOL!!!

Oh my word! I dropped Jason off at the school today and learned it was class picture day. Apparently the teacher forgot to tell everyone. Jason was....well.....Jason. I decided to tag along and take some awesome pictures!!!! =)

I'm just glad he's got teachers that are tough enough to put up with him.

Silly School Stuff

This was yesterdays afternoon activity. And of course this is my LOVELY rendition of what I tried to teach the kids. I had them color it so that their parents have some idea of what we are trying to teach the kids at school.

I drew the trees on the board and then had equations to put on the Equal or the Not Equal tree. I explained using the monkey as a scale, that if there is one banana on one side we need to have one banana on the other side to be equal, or the same. I think one of my kids got it. As the numbers got to big, he got confused. So that was where we stopped. It was kind of fun.

School Stuff

I've been having a lot of fun planning the lessons for my class in the afternoon. I've been trying to teach the kids about the properties of water. So I was showing them how water separates colors out of ink. Now of course it's more complex then that, but I'm not a teacher......yet. =)

We took water color and drew rainbows on coffee filters. Then we sprayed them down with a spray bottle. I think they turned out rather cute!!!
We also have been discussing the differences between wants and needs. It's been kind of fun to find out what the kids like.

School Math Night

Thursday was School Math Night. The kids enjoyed it tremendously. There were a lot of activities, and the kids enjoyed meeting with their friends.

This was a maze you had to solve with a drop of water.
Figuring out fractions with a hamburger.
Static Electricity. This was my favorite by far!
Writing the rhythm of their names.
Learning more about music.

Building structures with Marshmallows.

Brett had to take the van to the store so we walked home. We had a lot of fun.

Presidents Day

Since it was Presidents Day yesterday we are doing a craft today at school. My teacher asked me to get together a craft because she won't be there today. So here is what I came up with!

The "brim" is actually a plate and the top is open. I think we'll fill it with a few things.
This looked pretty boring so I added the yarn.
Kind of cute for a 10 minute project.

At school with Tori

Jason and I went to walk with Tori's class. It was raining so the teacher decided we were going stay inside. We played, "4 corners", and "Heads up 7-up".

Jason sat in Tori's desk for a minute.
And then he decided he needed to run around the class room.
After school Tori told a story at the Storytelling Festival. Jason found the box of pillows and head dived into it. It kept him busy for a few minutes, anyway.

Teach Town

Jason has a new computer game, that his teacher gave us to work with at home. It's called Teach Town, and he loves it!! The other kids like to play with him too. I think it's something they all have in common. They love the computer.
